How to get the most from your hair appointment

Make sure you read this before your next hair appointment. If you have ever walked away from the salon loving your hair, only to find that when you get home you can not achieve the same result, then read on.

BE PREPARED
Before even stepping into the salon, make sure you are prepared by having a idea of the hairstyle or color you require. If you are wanting to change your current hair style, then make sure you book in for a restyle rather than a cut and finish as more time will be allocated to your appointment time. Or even better make use of free consultations and visit the salon beforehand. It is especially important to have a free consultation if a colour change or colour correction is required. This is because of timing issues. sometimes colour corrections are simple and straight forward, whilst other times can be a very lengthy process and even sometime impossible.

BE PROMPT
Been on time will keep both you and your stylist happy and ensure that your appointment is not been rushed. And after all nobody works at there best when rushing and its you that has to live with your hair day in day out!!!

CONSULTATION
During your hair consultation make sure that you not only tell your hair stylist what you require, but also show them too. Us hairstylists love pictures as they speak a thousand words and will help explain to your hair stylist what you are trying to explain. Take in pictures of hairstyles and colours that you like. Flip through Hair mags and ask to see colour swatches. This all goes towards ensuring that both client and hairstylist are on the same page. if your face shape or hair type will not work with what you have chosen, your hairstylist will be able to suggest similar alternatives

DURING THE APPOINTMENT
It is a good idea during the appointment to ask your stylist how to keep up the new hair colour, style or cut. For example shorter hairstyles will need regular trims around every 4-6 weeks, were as someone with long flowing locks may last a good 6-8 weeks in between trims.

THE BLOWDRY
Ask your stylist to show you how to do a proper blowdry. Your hairstylist should show you how to achieve your new look step by step so that you are able to achieve the same result yourself at home. you should also be advised on what products have been used on your hair ie wax mousse, root lift, shine spray etc. Products make a big difference and if the stylist cannot achieve the look without the products they use on your hair, then how can you expect to achieve it yourself at home. it is important to have all the necessary tool required to achieve the look yourself.

Communication is key to a great haircut that looks great every day and not just on the day you visit the salon. i know that after a great consultation with my clients that they will be happy with there hair every day and be able to achieve the look they want
