HOW TO GET THE BEST HAIR CUT FOR YOUR FACE SHAPE

Have you ever gone to the hair salon, magazine in hand, hoping to have your locks transformed into the latest trend featured in the magazine, only for us to tell you that your face shape wont carry that, or worst still, your stylist puts that exact hairstyle on you, but you look nothing like the model wearing the style in the magazine.

When choosing your perfect hairstyle for your unique look, your stylist needs to take into account your build and features. For example close cropped styles wont suit anyone with a large frame, nor would a full bodied style compliment a person with a small frame. Making sure that your style and frame balance is the key to a successful outcome here.

Stylists also need to take into account your face shape, when choosing the best hairstyle for you. There are 5 basic face shapes oval, heart, round, square and triangle. To archive the perfect look means choosing the right cut or style to suit your own face shape.

All of these shapes can be beautiful, but oval is considered to be the most versatile.

OVAL FACE SHAPES are identified by the perfect symmetry of certain facial features, such as distance from the hairline to the bridge of the nose(between the eyes), from the bridge of the nose to the lips, and from the lips to the bottom of the chin. If your face shape is oval, consider yourself lucky. This shape is the only one that works with almost every hairstyle.

HEART SHAPED FACES are usually broader through the forehead and taper towards the chin. You can make this face shape appear more over by keeping most of the weight of the hair around the chin level, or by wearing shorter hairstyles. keep in mind that the goal is to minimize the forehead and bring attention to the chin.

ROUND FACES are just that:round. they have wide cheekbones and usually smaller through forehead and chin. The goal here is to minimise the cheekbones. styles with height or sides that sweep onto the face usually work best.

SQUARE FACES have a bold forehead and a angular jawline. Styles with soft edges and a great deal of texture directed towards the face really suit this shape. The length should be kept longer than jaw length to draw attention away from the jaw, but at the same time it should be layered. a straight sleek style would only serve to accent the angular lines of the face.

TRIANGULAR SHAPED FACES are angular at the jaw line, but narrow through the forehead. They can be treated much the same way as square faces with one exception, more height and fullness through the crown and the forehead areas to make sure these areas look larger.

Okay now you've got the same information as us stylists, this means the next time you go to the salon, you can thumb through the magazines and book and choose the perfect haircut to suit you.

GOOD LUCK !

How to get the most from your hair appointment

Make sure you read this before your next hair appointment. If you have ever walked away from the salon loving your hair, only to find that when you get home you can not achieve the same result, then read on.

BE PREPARED
Before even stepping into the salon, make sure you are prepared by having a idea of the hairstyle or color you require. If you are wanting to change your current hair style, then make sure you book in for a restyle rather than a cut and finish as more time will be allocated to your appointment time. Or even better make use of free consultations and visit the salon beforehand. It is especially important to have a free consultation if a colour change or colour correction is required. This is because of timing issues. sometimes colour corrections are simple and straight forward, whilst other times can be a very lengthy process and even sometime impossible.

BE PROMPT
Been on time will keep both you and your stylist happy and ensure that your appointment is not been rushed. And after all nobody works at there best when rushing and its you that has to live with your hair day in day out!!!

CONSULTATION
During your hair consultation make sure that you not only tell your hair stylist what you require, but also show them too. Us hairstylists love pictures as they speak a thousand words and will help explain to your hair stylist what you are trying to explain. Take in pictures of hairstyles and colours that you like. Flip through Hair mags and ask to see colour swatches. This all goes towards ensuring that both client and hairstylist are on the same page. if your face shape or hair type will not work with what you have chosen, your hairstylist will be able to suggest similar alternatives

DURING THE APPOINTMENT
It is a good idea during the appointment to ask your stylist how to keep up the new hair colour, style or cut. For example shorter hairstyles will need regular trims around every 4-6 weeks, were as someone with long flowing locks may last a good 6-8 weeks in between trims.

THE BLOWDRY
Ask your stylist to show you how to do a proper blowdry. Your hairstylist should show you how to achieve your new look step by step so that you are able to achieve the same result yourself at home. you should also be advised on what products have been used on your hair ie wax mousse, root lift, shine spray etc. Products make a big difference and if the stylist cannot achieve the look without the products they use on your hair, then how can you expect to achieve it yourself at home. it is important to have all the necessary tool required to achieve the look yourself.

Communication is key to a great haircut that looks great every day and not just on the day you visit the salon. i know that after a great consultation with my clients that they will be happy with there hair every day and be able to achieve the look they want
